500 ton linear winch type C1100

C1100 linear winch 500 mTon capacity
This linear winch is build by the Lucker manufacturing company (Amclyde) to the specification of Bezemer. This winch was originally designed to perform a J-tube pull-in on the Norwegian “Troll A” platform. This winch is now mainly used for beach pulls all over the world. The twin engine diesel driven power unit is fully redundant.

General description linear winch
The linear winch consists of two grippers mounted in a frame. The wire rope passes through each gripper. Each gripper is capable of holding the wire rope. The grippers move back and forth (extend and retract) through the actions of four hydraulic main cylinders. The grippers are independently controlled and their movement can be sequenced to either pull-in or payout the wire rope.

The holding action is developed by two wedges inside each gripper. If the wedges are contacting the wire rope when a load is applied to the wire rope, the wedges will clamp onto and hold the wire rope. When one gripper is pulling, the wire rope slips through the wedges of the other gripper.

Four hydraulic wedge cylinders control wedge movement. Extending the wedge cylinders closes the wedges. Retracting the wedge cylinders opens the wedges. Each pair of wedge cylinders is hydraulically connected in parallel to assure equal actuating forces.

Wire rope pull-in is accomplished manually or automatically by the control system. In both the manual and automatic mode, the #1 and #2 gripper wedges maintain in contact with the wire rope at all times.

Wire rope payout can also be accomplished manually or automatically. Since the wedges holding the load cannot be opened, control of the load is always maintained.
