This project was originally for the pull-in of three 48” crude pipelines with a length of 3500 meter to three SPM buoys. The pipelines had to be installed in one trench with a separation of just 2.5 meters and therefore all wires had to be laid simultaneously. In total we have supplied 6 storage winches complete with power units in order to lay the wires in a proper way. This was performed from a flattop barge.
The pull wires were built-up in 3 sections with 2 diameters of steel wire rope, so for each pipeline two socket passing’s and also exchange of wire grips in the winch was necessary.
After the wires were laid and the pipelines were pulled our customer was also awarded the contract for two 48” parallel pipelines. Again wires had to be laid and the 2 pulls were performed.
The challenge of this project was mainly the safety of our operators and our equipment. Our customer provided for its own personnel and subcontractor's personnel a complete compound with all the necessary protection and armed guards during traveling to and from the airports. No incidents whatsoever were experienced.
